Review of Failure to Launch (2006) by Karen P — 07 Dec 2008

There were hidden gems in this (supporting actors Zooey Deschanel and Justin Bartha), although generally it was pretty superficial. It tried for more depth towards the end, but never successfully navigated between funny and pathetic.

McConaughey and Parker's characters aren't engaging fast enough to make the audience care about them, so that when the depth is revealed about 3/4 into the film (and then not explored), I wanted to care, but also kinda wondered why I should.

Generally, though, it exceeded my very, very low expectations, and if you keep your expectations that low, it might exceed them for you too.
