In order for "Failure To Launch" to work, you would have to suspend your disbelief that a man like Matthew McConeghey would remain at home until age 35. Also, you would have to believe that parents like Terry Bradshaw and Kathy Bates would be too cowardly to throw him out, which they should.

Both Sarah's and Matthew's characters are not very honest, which is what drives the whole story.

The only real character is Sarah's roommate, played by Zooey Deschannel, who essentially steals every scene she's in. Zooey brings a certain honesty and quirkiness to her character. Unfortunately, her foil in the movie is a mechanical mockingbird. She deserved better.

Matthew seems to be playing the same type of character he's played in "How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days", "Fool's Gold" and "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past". Maybe a thriller would be an interesting departure.
