Review of Fail Safe (1964) by Oliver K — 07 Jul 2007
It's a little didactic at times, for example, Henry Fonda talking straight into the camera to explain exactly what's wrong with the world, but given the world climate in which it was produced, it's certainly necessary that its messages be so overt.
Still, while I agree with its statements, Fail-Safe does beat you over the head with them sometimes. Technically, though, I think it's absolutely brilliant. I love the heavy reliance on bright lights and shadows, and the final minute of the movie is absolutely haunting beyond words.
