Review of Fahrenheit 451 (2018) by Rose R — 21 May 2018
This movie confirms the whole philosophy of book itself. Without books, subtly, critical thinking, and -frankly- taste are lost. This movie focuses on the shock values like the overbearing intricacies of technology and tacky acting by the cast.
If you actually read book, Montag was someone who could isolate himself from the distractions and see the world for the truth: the incredulous sadness that ruled, people's inability to face their problems due to dependence on distractions created by technology, and the hope that there is more to strive for.
It's a shame that Michael B Jordan was subject to playing a role that was underwritten for him as he is as dynamic as the Montag from the book. Rather than embracing the subtleties that help define Montag and make the audience question the bigger picture, Jordan is subjected to play a somewhat superficial character who seems to flock to the next extreme.
The true character of Montag was battling these extremes, realizing the superficiality of it all and embracing what was viewed as the "ugly" truth in the book, leading him to find foundation and substance in life.
