Review of Fahrenheit 451 (1966) by Joe J — 11 Feb 2008
Never got around to reading or seeing this story until last night. The message behind it was slow to come out, but it was a really good movie.
The story takes place in a time when books are banned due to them making people unhappy. Whether the content makes them sad.. or it makes people realize their lives could have been better/more exciting. They live in a world where television and prescription drugs keep everyone content. Damn... talk about fiction becoming fact.
The other creepy thing is with states (mostly the Appalachain ones.. ie WV, TN, KY) banning books from schools since they say they don't like the content such as Harry Potter containing sorcery or Huck Finn and Of Mice and Men offending people for racist comments made in a story about the past in this country.
Are these bans a precursor of things to come?
