Review of Fading Gigolo (2013) by Sol C — 10 May 2014
Congrats on John Turturro for making a Woody Allen type of film, with Woody in it, that is not directed by Woody. Turturro does a great job directing wise here. He does capture Allen's filmmaking style here. Woody steals the film. By the end of the film, you would think this is a Woody Allen film, not Turturro.
However, there is a major negative with the film. It is with Turturro the actor, not director. John shouldn't have played the lead role in the film. He should have casted someone else in that role. John doesn't fit that role at all. I keep thinking someone like Paul Rudd would have done better in that role.
As for the rest of the cast, everyone is well casted and delivers. Sharon Stone and Sofia Vergara are great on screen together. I wanted to see more scenes with them in it. Liev Schreiber was ok, maybe a little over the top at times. Vanessa Paradis was very good here. However, she had no chemistry with Turturro.
Overall, I would say see it for Woody.
