Review of Fading Gigolo (2013) by Ray H — 26 May 2014
This is a small movie largely centered on a segment of the Jewish community in New York. The movie was written and directed by John Turturro. Woody Allen is here playing himself as a neurotic, insecure, New York Jew; among other things. The story is very simple. It did not offer much to ponder or think about. It has comedic elements, but is not a laugh-out-loud type of movie. It is gently amusing and mildly entertaining. It might have more appeal for someone from a Jewish ethnic group.
The story chugs along. The acting is pretty good. But, there just isn't much story here. Finally, it reaches a not unexpected end.
If you like John Turturro or Woody Allen; you might want to take a look. Otherwise, I would not recommend it.
