Review of Fading Gigolo (2013) by Adrian Z — 30 Jul 2014
Funny, sad, sweet, weird and sexy. Turturro does a great job behind the camera as he does in front of it. This kooky New York story hits all the right notes with a cool soundtrack, and Woody Allen doesn't exude a drop of pedophile, even with his several scenes with children, which are some of the funniest in the movie.
The Jewishness is incredibly interesting for a goyim like me, and gives it a creepy, amusing, menacing but proud solemn edge. Better by far than any blockbusting rom com drek. Hurt only I'm sure by the Allen kiddy fiddler accusations.
Deserves a lot better rating.
