Review of Factory Girl (2014) by Brooker B — 19 May 2008
Forget the plot. We have all seen the sorbid tale of the naive girl wanting fame, art and riches who stumbles down the rabbit hole. If this film offers anything interesting, it is the performances and, perhaps, the commentary.
Miller does the best acting job I have seen from her, and Guy Ritchie proves his chameleon like acting style as he dissapears into Warhol. The depiction of Bob Dylan is almost unforgivable--They cast Hayden Christenson for the love of God! Why is this hack cast in ANYTHING! In addition, they make up a sexual romance between the two that didn't exist and Dylan is depicted as some kind of one-dimensional purist.
In the end, I don't think that the life of Edie Sedgwick warranted a movie.
