Review of Factory Girl (2006) by Matthew G — 10 Oct 2008
Knowing little to nothing about what the real Warhol, Dylan, and Sedgewick were like, I have trouble commenting on the authenticity of the acting in Factory Girl. With that being said, I don't think I need to even have heard of Bob Dylan before to feel that Hayden Christensen completely fucking butchered his portrayl of him, coming off as a wooden, laughable doppleganger of what should have been. Guy Pearce and Sienna Miller both capture their characters with vigor and pathos, most notably Sienna Miller. She managed to crack open the ribcage and cranium of Edie Sedgewick, allowing the audience to understand the pitfalls of her story.
Overall, it was a strange little biopic that managed to shine in at least 2 out of its 3 main performances.
