Review of Factory Girl (2006) by Susan H — 30 Jul 2009
Sad true story about the tragic life of Edie Sedgwick (played by Sienna Miller), a muse of Andy Warhol's in the '60s. Andy Warhol is a fucking dickhead, he uses people up and then discards them.
Guy Pearce does a good Andy Warhol, but not as good as David Bowie's portrayal of him in Basquiat. Edie and Andy Warhol start the movie off as best friends, she becomes a huge star, but he never pays her for being in his movies, and she eventually becomes a penniless drug addict, and a whore.
I can't really say I felt sorry for her; she makes a lot of stupid choices. But her story is tragic (she dies of an overdose at age 28, after 2 years of being in and out of rehab, and Andy and all her socilalite friends turn their backs on her).
She has a romance with a very famous musician, played by Hayden Christensen, midway through the movie, which begins the rift between her and Andy. I kept waiting for them to say his name, like I was supposed to know who this big star was, you know? I waited till the end credits to find out, and he was listed only as "musician".
Sad movie.
