Review of Factory Girl (2006) by Nerine D — 04 Jan 2011
This is not a pretty film to watch and Warhol is painted out to be less than glamorous. Still, it's a fascinating glimpse into the artist's life drawn from the perspective of an "it" girl.
I don't think there should be apologies for the lifestyle but it's an interesting bit of cinema exploring an era that has sometimes been put up on a pedestal without exposing the warts. Would be fascinating to see more about the saga with Nico and The Velvet Underground.
Edie, however, remains a tragic figure. It's easy to say she did it all to herself yet it's difficult not to have sympathy.
