Review of Factory Girl (2006) by Ricardo O — 15 Mar 2011
Sienna Miller, an "it girl" herself, does a decent job giving it her all as the ambitious starlet Edie Sedgwick while Guy Pearce just about nails his interpretation of Andy Warhol (I think he deserves more recognition for his performance, unfortunately this movie didn't do well with critics or moviegoers) but Hayden Christensen was just meh as the Dylanesque musician.
I still don't know why Jimmy Fallon is in the movie. The movie is a bit of a mess but has some parts that are nice. Maybe it's because it's so hard to actually get access to Warhol's films that when his character is shooting a film, the movie is at its most interesting.
I don't know, I enjoyed watching him make his experimental films. If there is one thing that the movie does get right, it's the art direction and the fashion; it's very accurate and nicely done.
The soundtrack is also good, although it seems like the people in charge of picking music simply just picked out random garage rock songs from the famous Nuggets compilation box set; this of course isn't a bad thing, in fact I really enjoyed the music as I am a big fan of the garage rock from the '60s.
Overall, it's an alright movie that lacks in substance but does well in the style department. It's enough to watch it once but I really doubt many will feel like watching it again. 6/10.
