Review of Factory Girl (2006) by Jesy S — 21 May 2011
Sienna Miller is a much stronger actress then I would have expected her to be. I've read more about her on the internet and in trashy gossip rags than any of her actual work. Her she plays the tragic late 1960's socialite Edie Sedgwick to perfection. I loved her performance.
But the movie itself was horrible. The acting by the majority of the cast is dreadful (particularly Hayden Christensen). Was he supposed to be Bob Dylan? Really? Way off the mark.
The real shocker for me was how Guy Pearce played Andy Warhol as an insecure, shallow, vaccuous moron. He's simply brilliant at making the pop icon seem completely idiotic. I've never gotten the whole Andy Warhol was a genious thing. I think most of his work was pretentious crap. In this film Warhol is seen using Edie (and everyone else) to hide the fact he's completely boring on his own. What's sick is how people bought into his illusion.
