Review of Facing the Giants (2006) by Ginger B — 09 Feb 2009
As with Fireproof (which I actually saw first), I was a little disappointed in the quality of the acting. However, the latter half of this movie is very inspirational. Even if some ideas were overworked, it is a good reminder and an encouragement to keep trying to do one's best for God's glory. This overall message carries over into other areas of real life, and not just in football, as Brooke stated in the movie.
In this movie, the result of faith and surrender was a happy ending. However, in real life, sometimes there is no "happy ending" until the final reward in heaven. That would be my main concern about the ending of this movie...yes, it leaves you happy for the characters, but it could also lead to a bit of disallusionment if one's own prayers and surrender are not followed in the same manner. Sometimes, God allows pain that we might grow by it, and that He might be glorified in a more meaningful way than would just be evident in happy endings. I suppose that might be where the following line from the movie might apply: "If you win, you praise Him. If you lose, you praise Him.".
