Review of Facing the Giants (2006) by Jerrod G — 28 Jun 2010
"Facing the Giants" turned out to be better than I'd expected. In a nutshell, it's a feel-good film created by a church in Georgia (which means that it has a very strong Christian message) about a high school football coach and his struggling team.
And, because it's a lower-budgeted Christian film, the acting tends to struggle a bit. But, overall, the movie deals with realistic people, who work in or attend a Christian high school, in real-life situations.
The director does a good job at using unique angles, and he positions his characters in ways that mimic the tension of the plot. My only real complaint is that the film presents a very "Christ will fix all of your earthly problems" message, which I don't necessary agree with.
But, in the end, it's still worth watching. [4/5 stars].
