Review of Facing the Giants (2006) by Daniel J — 02 Sep 2011
Being a Christian doesn't mean one has to automatically like this movie. I didn't. I had the opportunity to see it on a mission trip this past spring. I found it too simplistic and completely predictable.
While admirable that a church made this film on an extremely small budget, I found that good intentions don't overcome bad storytelling. Getting this film released at all is the only reason I gave it one star; otherwise, I would have given it zero stars.
This movie is OK for church youth groups, but that's about it. For a viewer looking for a story with more substance, something challenging to watch, something that deals with real life in a more realistic manner, I would say "Look elsewhere.
" There is inspiration (if you look past the predictability), but substance and challenge are sorely lacking in this film.
