Review of Face/Off (1997) by Ian B — 19 Nov 2011
Wow, I remembered this movie being so much better. The premise is an interesting one, too bad the script turned out so awful. I couldn't believe how cheesy the dialogue and performances were. Do we really need a scene where they say the title of the movie like 20 times in a row so the audience "gets it".
It's like they set out to make this movie one big shiny, over-the-top piece of cheese right from the start. Still, it had its moments. They were few and far between, but they were still there. It's sad to see how far John Woo fell once he started making American action films (Mission Impossible 2.
..need I say more?). What's the big deal? He just shoots everything in slow motion and lights off fireworks when anyone shoots a gun. Travolta looks like he's having fun playing yet another bad guy, but Nicholas Cage once again proves why he's one of the worst actors in Hollywood.
It's funny how badly a lot of 90's action films have aged in such a short period of time.
