Review of Face/Off (1997) by Jenny Z — 07 Jan 2012
The best part of this movie is that even the characters of the movie cannot accept the premise of the film and spend a lot of dialogue refusing to believe the situation. If you took a drink every time one of the characters expressed disbelief at the premise you would be well intoxicated. Face/Off includes both formulaic action movie elements similar to many movies of the 90s, and insane science that would be laughable if it didn't eventuate in the epic 'good guy is bad guy/bad guy is good guy' concept - 'we simply connect the tear ducts, muscles and nerve endings!'. Every movie where Nicholas Cage OR John Travolta acts insane is going to be entertaining. One big problem with this movie was the irksome rape undertones going on.
Bechdel test fail. It's possible that the good guys wife said something to the good guys daughter at one point, but I don't think it was a full exchange.
