Review of Face/Off (1997) by Zanele J — 30 Dec 2012

John Travolta (Sean Archer) is fun to watch, watching him brag about his recent accolades and sip on his glass of wine makes me chuckle.
This is a demanding movie. Travolta and Cage play two characters in the same movie and they exceed all expectations, these men are true actors in every way. Castor Troy is played by Nicolas Cage and Sean Archer by John Travolta.
For Castor Troy to prosper in his business he tries to kill Sean Archer, he shoots him and accidentally Archer's son is killed. In an operation that renders Troy in a coma, an idea is hatched to get Archer to switch faces with Troy, infiltrate the prison where Pollux Troy is held to get information on a bomb Troy planted somewhere in the city. This mission fails, and the two men are trapped in each other's lives.
This is a classic tale of good versus evil, with revenge piggy backing on the tale.
Nick Cassavetes plays Diettrich Hassler, Troy's right hand man and Gina Gershon is Troy's girlfriend, they have a baby together. Joan Allen plays Archer's wife. These characters add wonderful depth to the already rich story.
Terrific movie.
Highly recommended.
