Review of F for Fake (1973) by Eric R — 21 May 2005
F For Fake- One of Orson Welles last films, and indeed a pretty good one. The film is a documentary about Trickery. Weither or not something has been forged or is a Fake. He examies this through magic tricks, but mostly through Artwork. He looks at paintings, renouned ones and asks the question: Are they real, or Fake? He also looks at a literary hoax about Howard Hughes (which really interested me). Interesting film. The film is a little slow and indistinct at times and it requires multiple viewing to understand. Good film nonetheless.
Star Wars Ep.2- I saw this 3 years ago and decided to give it another viewing tonight. While the film is much much better than the Phantom Menace, it still feels emotionally hallow, even for what's happening onscreen. Hayden Christianson is an appealing lead, but just gives off a so-so performance. Ewan McGregor delivers a pretty good performance as Obi-wan. The special effects as fantastic, as expected, but you can't help to feel that they're there to gloss over the storyline. A good effort though, but could have been much better.
Resident Evil- This is a horror flick based off the videogames. I'll start with the ups (this won't take long). The film is pretty cool, I'll admit. Milla Janovich is a pretty appealing lead. The film does follow the game well. The downs. This film completely lacks any tension. And it's really not scary at all. The cliches fly like bullets, as does the terrible dialogue. The acting is so-so from Janovich, but terrible from the rest of the cast. This film just doesn't deliever on the gore and action scenes were too stlyish and came off muffled due to too much special effects and bad editing. Don't waste your time.
