Review of F for Fake (1973) by Andrew C — 04 Jul 2007
Dense, elusive, deceptive, mocking, and oozing with self-satirizing braggadocio, the last great work of the late Orson Welles is part hoax, part documentary, and altogether an incredible portrait of one of the world's greatest charlatans.
Anyone with an interest in film on virtually any level should take the time to view this picture; for the editing Welles employs alone, F For Fake is worth the investment, but cineastes who partake will be rewarded with a rich, layered dissertation on trickery, fraudulence, originality, and how the three fit together into the world of art.
