Review of F for Fake (1973) by Chris G — 14 Oct 2007
Orson Welles' last film is absolutely unique. Part documentary, part exercise in film editing, part trickery, Welles looks at the world of cons and fakery, including a painter who could fake the works of other famous artists and Clifford Irving, the author who faked the Howard Hughes biography.
Plus, the film itself has its own bits of trickery and cons the audience on more than one occasion. Frantic and fast paced, this may be Welles' most playful and fun film.
