Review of F for Fake (1973) by Kevin D — 04 May 2008
Testing and playing with the limits of the documentary mode of filmmaking, a dull synopsis would entail the story of art forger Elmyr De Hory and his (equally devious) biographer Clifford Irving, but instead itâ??s a broader inspection of the notion of truth that Welles is even compelled to confess his own charlaton aspects.
It's playful and self-referential tone should be confusing, but Welles' own soothing growl guides us through effortlessly.
