Review of F for Fake (1973) by Brent G — 04 Dec 2009
Man, what a smoooooooooth movie. That's the best word I can use to describe this. Welles is a classy motherfucker and a wonderful host. He brings up very good questions about the nature of art and art forgery.
As in, as long as it affects us, why do we care who or where it came from? Very interesting, and a point I haven't seen brought up anywhere else in film just yet. The editing apparently is revolutionary for inventing that "MTV" style of documentary intercuts, which I suppose I can appreciate.
But I love just how fine of a host Welles is. The film is challenging but light in doing so, and it's entertaining from start to finish. If I get a dog, I might name it Orson.
