Review of F for Fake (1973) by Ryan M — 09 Apr 2010
Orson Welles' final film is about forgery, starting with the notorious art forger Elmyr, it builds various questions on the ideas of illusion and reality, fakery and truth, it is Orson Welles at his most playful, an excellent documentary that should be incredibly pretentious, but Welles' own admission that he is a magician and a trickster like every other professional in the business ensures that it doesn't delve into self-indulgence.
Fascinatingly audacious.
