Review of Eyes Without a Face (1960) by Pascal T — 24 Feb 2011
Given the hype, I was somewhat disappointed that this was mostly just an above-average mad scientist horror flick, albeit with superior acting and cinematography. The detailed skin graft sequence is the only moment that approaches real creepiness, while the multiple kidnappings have a certain air of repetitiveness.
On the other hand, much of the imagery is quite memorable, and Franju's controlled, taut direction keeps things moving. Worthwhile if unspectacular.
