Review of Eyes Wide Shut (1999) by Katherine A — 29 Apr 2011
I fucking love Kubrick. This is one of his weaker efforts from the films of his that I've seen but it's still an immensely layered and thought-provoking piece. Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman both prove that they actually can act as Tom has some odd sort of relationship crisis spurring a voyage of self-discovery on. It's an odd film that intentionally meanders and has parts that are intentionally flat (in striking contrast to Kubrick's usual style), but is full of depth and multiple readings.
8/10.
