Eyes Wide Shut is a bizarre final work from Stanley Kubrick. It seems more unfocused than his other films, though the film is technically quite sound. There is fantastic, odd mood of dread to the proceedings, and it's sometimes unclear what exactly is happening and what isn't.

It's like a mystery without a coherent explanation. Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman both deliver finely-tuned performances, and the film is surprisingly gripping despite its wonky narrative. I have a feeling this may demand repeat viewings to truly appreciate, while many of Kubrick's other films wow on the first viewing and grow even more impressive on consequent watchings.

As of now, my least favorite film (that I've seen, obviously) in Kubrick's impressive canon.
