Review of Eyes Wide Shut (1999) by Solomon G — 05 Dec 2012
This surely has to win the award of Goofiest Movie Title of 1999. Which genius of the English language came up with that one? The film itself isn't a whole lot better...guy argues with wife after she flirts with someone, guy goes out on the town for revenge, gets himself into some weirdass Satanic orgy, comes back home, makes up with wife, they go Christmas shopping together, and she winds up telling him they need to 'fuck'. Hmm.
On the plus side, this is beautifully shot and has that haunting, compelling Kubrickesque quality which sets him apart from other directors. For this reason alone, I award this movie 2 stars; but hugely disappointing that it turned out to be Kubrick's swansong.
