Review of Eyes of Laura Mars (1978) by Chantal L — 18 Jun 2010
I didn't expect much from this film, and that might be why I was pleasantly surprised. There are a ton of good actors in it: Brad Dourif, Rene Auberjonois, Tommy Lee Jones, Raul Julia. Who all give great and interesting performances.
The most surprising being from Tommy Lee Jones. I found it strange to watch him in the romantic lead, because usually he is the lead dramatic character. This was definitely a different role for him. I absolutely loved the fact that Helmut Newton's photography was also used in this film.
The premise consists of a controversial photographer who has psychic visions of her friends being murdered. One by one they get killed, while the police try and figure out who the murderer is. There is quite a twist ending, which is weird and not completely explained, but makes for a good ending.
The cinematography is at it's best during this last sequence. Overall, it's a great example of 70's film making at it's best, with a good storyline and great acting. Definitely recommended for lover's of 70's film and those who enjoy a good who dun-nit.
