Review of Eyes of Laura Mars (1978) by Steve S — 27 Jul 2010
A seemingly pure homage to the Italian giallo movement in the 60s and 70s, with a different take through John Carpenter's writing. The only thing that made it not feel so much like a giallo was that it wasn't quite as over-the-top, but the story is ripped straight out of the pages of Argento's Tenebre.
Much of the style and shots are taken from especially Argento's style of giallo, but this stands on its own as one of, if not the only, first attempt at an American giallo, and they did pretty well, cheesy acting and all.
