Review of Eye in the Sky (2015) by Hazel H — 06 May 2016
Nostalgia will make us want to believe that this was an outstanding last role for the great Alan Rickman but he needed to bring a bit more of Snape's enigmatic character to properly carry this off.
It's Helen Mirren's film, she provides the steely resolve that there's a right and wrong in war. A great film for us armchair liberals, who play out war scenarios with favouring smugness and intellect above stark reality.
This provides food for thought, with no easy answers and no winners. War is bad, films like this suggest that we should finally just try to give it up.
