Review of Eye in the Sky (2015) by Greg R — 08 Jun 2016
Excellent tense thriller that has Helen Mirren leading a team around the world in a drone strike on terrorist suspects. As the various military and political leaders watch the live footage, to their horror a young girl arrives outside the suspect's house to sell bread and will surely be killed if they attack.
The film deals with the morality of modern warfare and the emotional and political ramifications on those involved. Great performances (oh Alan Rickman, what a loss!) and a tight, smart plot yet also a cinematic pleasure as we are immersed in the world.
My only reservation, tv shows like Homeland have been doing something similar for a while and Eye in the Sky explores familiar territory, albeit very well.
