Review of Eye in the Sky (2007) by Marilee H — 05 May 2016
A fairly good film, well acted, taut and thoughtful, but there's some jarringly unrealistic technology used in the film that does not exist. A spy insect that sends amazingly perfect high resolution live video under poor lighting conditions? Really? A spy bird? Really? Even the drone video is too high res and perfect. I think most of us have seen actual drone video of targets being hit on You Tube.
Also, decisions for a military mission are made jointly by intelligence, military and political advisors and leaders in advance. Once made, tactical decisions are made by the military in consultation with intelligence sources, not with committees. There is little 2nd guessing once missions are underway unless there's important information about the target's movement or location. A single little girl being in the target zone, alas, would not prevent a target being taken out by a drone. As a dramatic device, however, the little girl helped us comprehend the actual human toll of drone strikes.
