Review of Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close (2011) by Bkm — 26 Jan 2012
There is no way that any film or other piece of art or entertainment will ever be able to completely and accurately depict the events and aftershocks of that awful day, so it is not surprising that Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close is taking its fair share of harsh criticism.
That being said, I found the film to be splendidly acted (particularly the performance of Max Von Sydow) and full of grief and heartache. Granted, some of the emotional reactions are a result of the manipulative efforts of the director and screenwriter and the ending is a little too tidy and optimistic for the subject matter that precedes it, but the film still packs an emotional punch.
