Review of Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close (2011) by Zane G — 29 Jul 2012
I'll start by saying I enjoyed this film. No, it wasn't the masterpiece it confidently made itself out to be as it coursed its way through its tale. But after much thought, I still can't tell what the film wanted itself to be.
The semi-detached (Aushbergers)boy who cleverly searches the meanstreets of New York in order to solve his fathers riddle. Stumbles upon a mysertious key, with a 3 year plan to voyage every crevius of the loud, busy and uninviting city.
Along his path he counts his lies, he meets his absent and mute grandfather. And finds every person with the last name Black, some inviting, others helpful while most comforting the boy with paintings, tea, and awkward hugs.
His decision for absolute secrecy from his bewildered grieving mother (Sandra Bullock) intertwines a great story and interesting base for which makes this film memborable. The ending is unpredicatable, but leaves you feeling lost and unanswered as is life itself.
