Review of Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close (2011) by Lauren B — 27 Oct 2012
To some degree, it takes bravery for Hollywood to make movies centered around 9/11 that aren't documentaries or a dramatized accounts of actual events (United 93, World Trade Center). Attemps to date haven't been particularly successful - either critically or at the box office (Remember Me). But, here is Jonathan Safran Foer's novel adapted for the screen.
Critically, there is nothing revelatory about the plot, the acting is superb. But it should be seeing as how the cast is stacked with Oscar winners/nominees. The story itself was moving - you'll definitely need a box of tissues at the end. WHile there wasn't a "happy" ending, you still walk away feeling like everyone will be okay. Worth a watch - disregard the critics.
