Not sure if I can accuse it of "using" 9-11 as a catch. I really Didn't like the main character (Oskar). He annoyed the crap out of me and a lot of the time his actions don't make sense to me.
The purpose of the movie (tracking down the owner of a mysterious key) didn't hold my attention.
