Review of Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close (2011) by Charlie C — 27 Dec 2012
Completely insane and crushingly boring at the same time. stephen daldry deserves to be slapped for directing thomas horn the way he did. his acting is so intense that it seems like he is about to explode at any given moment.
max von sydow does literally nothing the entire time. one of the most invasive and unpleasant movie viewing experiences i've ever sat through. it's one thing for a movie to fall completely flat, emotionally speaking, but to drag the 9/11 tragedy into it as a cheap attempt to provoke sentimentality in its audience and fail doing it is actually kind of amazing in its own sad way.
plus....the man living with grandma turns out to be the kid's grandfather. crazy.
