Review of Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close (2011) by Lucas S — 07 Jan 2013
Thomas Horn as Oskar delivers an honest performance as a child trying to make sense of the illogical, confronting confusion in a way only children would. Without any words, Max von Sydow also tells the story of quiet melancholy and indefinable grief, capturing the true sentiment of a tragedy that rendered a whole nation speechless.
However, the film's take on the 9/11 tragedy whips from tenderly gripping to incredibly sappy and overly dramatic, which somehow made the subject harder to fully appreciate.
