Review of Extreme Prejudice (1987) by Joey R — 05 Aug 2018
If you like over the top tough guys machismo in your 80's action movies then you have come to the right place. The dialogue is ridiculous and the plot a simplistic homage to The Wild Bunch. The irony is that Nolte is such a good actor that in playing it completely straight he manages to pull off the unbendable white hat wearing hard as nails lawman. By contrast Powers Boothe equally does well by going the other way almost winking at the camera as a scenery chewing child pal gone bad black hat wearing villian.
The supporting cast is excellent with names like Michael Ironside, Clancy Brown, William Forsyth and Rip Torn. Maria Conchita Alonso (one of my favourite action movie hotties from the 80s) does what she can to be something more than merely Nolte's love interest and succeeds to the limited extent that Walter Hill allows her. This is after all a sexist boys own adventure were every punch is a sledgehammer and every bullet thunders like a cannon.
This is top shelf leave your brain at the door Saturday afternoon with the boys beer type movie making that Hill excels at. This is a yes from me.
