Review of Extraordinary Measures (2010) by Sabrina S — 12 Jun 2010
Harrison Ford and Brendan Fraser star in this inspiring and true story about a couple with two kids who have Pompe disease. This is a severe genetic desease that disables the heart and muscles. Usually the child dies before they reach their 9th or 10th birthday.
The father named John Crowley does the unthinkable- he quits his daytime job to join forces with Dr. Stonehill (played by Harrison Ford) a very eccentric but brillian scientist who seems to be on track to find a cure for Pompe.
The dvd has special features where you will see the real John Crowley- a remarkable, smart, handsome and very likeable man who despite the medical profession telling him no, that there is no cure to save his children, he finds no unacceptable and does whatever it takes to turn no into maybe and maybe into YES.
Crowley and Dr Stonehill form a corporation to manufacture the drug containing the enzyme that Dr. Stonehill was working on and the movie continues from there. Extraordinary Measures is a story about hope, determination and refusing to give up no matter the obstacles in the way!! The real John Crowley makes a cameo appearance in the film.
I don't give a film five stars easily so believe me when I say this one deserves it because the acting and story line is simply EXTRAORDINARY! You will cheer for this couple and for Dr. Stonehill because they are amazing human beings.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
