Review of Extraordinary Measures (2010) by Terry F — 25 Jan 2011
This is a straight forward movie, where you know what you are going to get before the opening credits have finished rolling. However, it is what it is, a story about a father doing whatever that he can to try to save his children.
As with most "inspired by a true story" movies, it's embellishments seem out of place, added to create a false sense of drama.
Given the script, which doesn't call for the actors to stretch much, you get ordinary performances and a movie that while tugging at the heart strings, will not be memorable in the long run.
Having said all that, I find most reviews of this movie extraordinarily harsh. I prefer to keep my low ratings for the true dreck out there, not a movie that simply wants to tell a simple story and does so in a rather innoculous manner. I wouldn't go out of my way to watch it, but I also feel quite a few people would enjoy it. It certainly should be rated in the 45-55% range overall.
