Review of Extraordinary Measures (2010) by Danny S — 16 Feb 2011
"Extraordinary Measures" 10 Scale Rating: 4.5 (Below Average) ...
Not even the charisma of Harrison Ford and Brendan Fraser could save this movie from mediocrity.
Desperately wanting to save his children from a fatal disease, John Crowley (Fraser) recruits a maverick scientist (Ford) in hopes that he can find a cure. The two frequently clash as the scientist is sort of a crotchety old man, but find a way to work together in the end.
To be honest, it felt like a made for TV movie that you'd see on Lifetime and not a big budget Hollywood film. Had I seen this in the theater, I would have felt shafted.
I personally like Ford and Fraser as actors, but neither of them were all that great in this one. Ford was actually annoying and was difficult to root for. They went too far to make him sort of an anti-hero and it failed. Furthermore, some of the moves the pair made in the film are questionable.
Definitely not the powerful tear jerker it was advertised to be.
