Review of Extract (2009) by Johann G — 10 Apr 2010
Going into this movie, I knew it would be something diferrent, knowing it was from Mike Judge. I never suspected it would be so off the track though; suprising but in a good way!
Twenty minutes into the movie, with the premise set up, I though I knew how it would end. I mean, it is the age old formula in the start, a hard working, sexually frustrated bussiness owner (Bateman) is approached by a small time con (Kunis) hoping to take advantage of him; I have to mention that Bateman's character is advised by his best friend, bartender and drug dispensor (who is played by an unrecongizable Ben Affleck). Based on this, you would assume that all hell will break loose and that we will have a hollywood-sweet comedy about betrayal, trust, finding faith, doing the right thing etc. Instead, Mike takes us into uncharted territories of a life-like drama and an ending that is so far away as can be from the 'run-of-the-mill' comedies in Hollywood today.
I do not want to give too much info though, just a recommendation for anyone that is interested in somewhat off comedy but in a good way.
