Review of Extract (2009) by Gavin S — 17 May 2010
Mike Judge has given us some gems - King of the Hill, Beavis and Butthead and most importantly the amazing "Office Space". So I had high hopes for this factory based comedy with another favourite of mine - Jason Bateman.
The trailer showed promise and I almost expected a "Factory Space" but I was let down on all 3 counts. The comedy was weak, Jason Bateman's character was copied from his character "Michael" in the ultra amazing sitcom "Arrested Development" (if you haven't seen that you REALLY must) but unfortunately a far weaker version.
The film explores the characters in the extract factory, their relationships and problems - this is done well but it's the comedy that lets it down. It really just isn't funny enough. Ben Affleck' plays the stoner friend where most of the cheaper comedy comes from.
Bateman really kept this film going - without him this would have dropped another star. If you like Mike Judge - just put Office Space on again... It's far superior.
