Review of Extract (2009) by Tig S — 04 Sep 2010
A quirky comedy which, although at times falls flat, is saved by the high quality of the cast. Jason Bateman is perfect at Joel Reynolds - the owner of a factory which produces 'Extract' - and who is going through a semi mid life crisis due to a lack of respect from his employees and a lack of sexy time from his wife.
Mila Kunis is also well cast as the deceptive but incredibly hot con artist drifter - Cindy, who obtains a job at the Extract factory in order to try and milk millions off of one of the employees who is trying to sue the company due to an accident at the workplace.
The leads are helped by the supporting cast - Kristen Wiig who is as quirky cute as ever and JK Simmons at his sardonic best. Ben Affeck is fantastic as Joel's bar tending best friend and adds profusely to the comedic value of the film.
To be fair, the plot isn't amazing and fans of Mike Judge's 'Office Space' might be disappointed (although the tone of the film is incredibly similar)- but I enjoyed this film and it isn't half bad.
