Review of Extract (2009) by Andy S — 06 Apr 2012
Can a slow plot that lacks direction and focus make for a good film? Yes it can, on the conditions that 1.) the focus remains on the characters themselves 2.) That being slow and indecisive is a theme of the film 3.
) that you can still make me laugh my ass off, all three of these things are true of Extract. Maybe I liked this film cause I came in with low expectations for the same reason most come in with high ones, that reason is writer director Mike Judge.
I'm just not a fan of his work, but I think I just may have been converted. Make no mistake this movie is funny, and funny in that dry mundane kind of way, which maybe not everyone can appreciate, but I can.
Comedies don't necessarily need a plot per say, just interesting characters who grow in some way, or learn, or just make you laugh.
