Review of Extortion (2017) by Dann M — 24 May 2018
Full of suspense, Extortion is an exciting crime thriller. While on a family vacation in the Caribbean Kevin Riley along with his wife and child get stranded on a deserted island, and their would-be rescuers turn out to be pirates who abduct Riley's wife and child and demand a million dollars for their return; but after paying the pirates leave Riley for dead.
Eion Bailey gives an incredible performance that really sells the character's desperation to find his family and that he'll go to any lengths to get them back. And the script does an impressive job at setting up the situation and taking unexpected twists.
Also, director Phil Volken does a good job at showing both the beauty of the Caribbean and how isolating and alone the sea and islands can be. Extortion is a surprisingly intense and captivating film that keeps the audience on the edge of their seats.
